@Arengeesus "Do u know the difference between polite and respect?" Being polite is a form respect to others. Didnt you know? "Why should u simply respect someone u dont know?" Every human being deserves respect until proven otherwise.

Indra Kusuma I can agree that what that man did was a disgrace. But does every stranger you meet not deserve any respect? How are strangers meant to "earn" anything when you havent even met yet?

@qwertyuiopasone3053 "respect should be earned" So how do you treat strangers? With disrespect?

@Arengeesus "i dont respect anyone easily unless i know them. It's being honest" So you treat strangers with disrespect?

@sionc1372 "What people need to do is be courteous to others. Show politeness" Being courteous is a FORM of respect. Being polite is a FORM of respect. Heck even dressing up neat and tidy is another FORM of respect. "respect is more than just being polite or having proper manners. It is a deep admiration you have to that person" Yes, "respect" encompasses more than just being polite and proper manners. But that doesnt mean being polite and being courteous is not a FORM of respect. This is not a matter of black and white (ie admire or not admire). It encompasses far more than that. Shaking ones hands when meeting them is another FORM of respect. Does one need to "earn" a hand shake? What if a parent has nothing worth admiring about? Does that mean their children should not respect them?

@simonebrooks202 "no one owes anyone anything...least of all respect" You are looking at things from a wrong angle. Its not about "owing anyone anything". Have you every shook someones hands before? You dont "owe" them a handshake. So why did you do it? Proper manners/etiquette is a FORM of respect.

@HoloScope This is not semantics. The people I am speaking with say you need to "earn" respect. Im saying you dont. Respect should be given to all individuals you meet (unless its its proven that they dont deserve it).
