@rom1783-c1y You dont know what the school rules are. The school rules could be breaking the rules the phone is now their property. If its their property, they can do whatever they want. Anyway, the point is, its consensual. All parties agreed to the rules and the demonstration had the parents consent. They didnt have to enrol and sign anything if they dont like the known regulations

@UnknownUnknown-nv2nv Wasteful or not is not, you dont have a say. Its not yours after all. And just because YOU care about the environment, doesnt mean others must abide by your values. Getting the phones "fixed" is not the issue. Its more impactful to use it as a lesson for the those that need it. And its not about "if you don't like something, then just smash and break it". Its about breaking regulations and facing the consequence that they AGREED to. This is a form of discipline. And it works. Confiscating is too lenient for Asia. "Is this the message we want our children to absorb as appropriate behavior when confronted with an inconvenience?" Breaking rules/laws/policy/regulation is not a mere "inconvenience". ESPECIALLY if its something you consented to. Something youre conveniently ignoring. The message of agreeing to something (consent), and breaking the agreement will lead to XYZ is indeed appropriate teaching.

@e11even-o1p Students at the bottom dont care about grades. Also, social credit is only on trial in SOME Chinese cities. Most of China doesnt even know what it is. And theyre not for children. So not sure why you even brought that up

Id even argue that even in the US, private schools can make these rules too, as long as they make parents sign an agreement to revoke their rights over their property if school rules are broken. "Do you really think that not a single parent in that school protested destroying an expensive device that they bought with their hard-earned money?" Correct. Because they signed a consent form. @1faithchick7 This is not just a random "someone". This is a school the parents specifically enrol their kids in to receive military-like discipline. Both parent and student know the consequences of breaking the rules, and both parents and students signed and consented to it. If they dont agree, then simply dont enrol into the school.

@pedesgila2229 Youre making judgements without knowing everything. What if this was just a show. What if the phones truly were old phones that was donated and no one used any more. Think for a second before making judgements. And even if it was real, it was all consensual. The parents signed and agreed to it. How can you be angry after signing and knowing the consequences of breaking school rules? If you dont agree, then dont sign and dont enrol in the school.
