@tylerharry6319 Now youre just shifting goal posts here. The "last" time PRC also put in a claim in the SCS was also after WW2. Their claims ever changed. And like I said, Taiwan till this day still claims, inhabit, and control islands in the SCS. Largest being Taiping island. Multiple ROC presidents also visited Taiping island in their terms. So dont say they dont claim it as theirs. And the latest news show that about 20 Taiwanese lawmakers will be visiting Taiping island in the coming days. Tell me how Taiwan doesnt claim it as theirs again. China was the first country in the region to lay claim to it. So they have the right to defend their territorial integrity. Thats literally the duty of every country - to patrol their territory and safeguard it. Yet now thats suddenly "bad" when China does it?

@Graatand Its not up to you to decide what can and cannot be part of a countrys sovereign territory. Whether you like it or not, territory is territory, whether is a rock or whatever. And thus, is to be subjected to a countrys sovereignty. And let me remind you, some islands have EEZs too. Just that with the sovereignty of all the "disputed territory" needed to be sorted out first before discussing which islands have EEZ and which dont. So your reef and shoal argument is void because they could very well have their own territorial waters, meaning its not part of PHs EEZ, but instead part of another countrys sovereign territorial waters.

Its about sovereignty over islands/rocks/reefs/atolls etc. You are confusing sovereignty with EEZ, theyre 2 completely different things. And yes, PH they did. PH DID unilaterally claim sovereignty over islands/rocks/reefs/atolls etc. Thats exactly how they got control over some of the islands/etc. First claimant of any territory does not need any "basis" to make their claims.

@Homer-OJ-Simpson No? They never stopped claiming to be "the China". The constitution hasnt changed, and KMT who was literally just in power till 2016, is "the party" that claims to be "the China". And they only "sort of" recognise Mongolia as an independent country. They require an national referendum to legally renounce their claims which still has not been done till date. The situation is ambiguous at most.

To being ungrateful of the assistance that helped you win the Vietnam war, and instead discriminated against and mistreated ethnic Chinese in Vietnam with various anti-Chinese policies, forcing them to leave. To attacking Chinas puppet ally in Cambodia. Every action taken was a stab at China one after another. And you wonder why China attacked Vietnam in 1979?

Here: 'In 1958, the People's Republic of China issued a declaration defining its territorial waters which encompassed the Spratly and Paracel Islands. North Vietnam's prime minister, Pham Van Dong, sent a diplomatic note to Zhou Enlai, stating that "The Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam respects this decision." The diplomatic note was written on September 14 and was publicized on Nhan Dan newspaper(Vietnam) on September 22, 1958. The content of Pham Van Dong's diplomatic note to Premier Zhou Enlai is as follows: "Comrade Prime Minister, We have the honour to bring to your knowledge that the Government of the DRVN recognizes and supports the declaration dated 4th September, 1958 of the Government of the PRC fixing the width of the Chinese territorial waters. The Government of the DRVN respects this decision and will give instructions to its State bodies to respect the 12-mile width of the territorial waters of China in all their relations in the maritime field with the PRC. I address to you, comrade Prime Minister, the assurance of my distinguished consideration".' Dont say theres no evidence again. Also, what did you mean by "international site"? @nick2minhne There doesnt need to be a treaty because North Vietnam never claimed those islands as theirs in the first place. It was South Vietnam that had claims over the islands, not the North. You cant have a treaty over something you do not own.

@nick2minhne You are entitled to your opinions, but experience is irrelevant in this conversation as this not a matter of experience, but a matter of facts. And the fact of the matter is that China indeed has the strongest claims. The 1958 letter from Vietnams president (Phạm Văn Đồng) is evidence that Vietnam acknowledged Chinas claim over the islands. And hes not just any random president. He was the ONLY president of North Vietnam and the FIRST president of unified Vietnam. So that letter from him holds a lot of weight.
