@privacyfig "Because India has no claims on Chinese land and China has claims on Indian land" Wrong. The disputed territory that India claims as theirs is illegal. When the British took over those lands, they signed a treaty with a local government, not with Qing Dynasty, the government that has actual sovereignty over those lands. The local government has zero power in handing over territory to anyone. What that means is that treaty is illegal. So its not Indian territory, its Chinese territory.

@privacyfig "So basically, the same argument as Russia's toward Ukraine or Palestinians towards Israel" Wrong. Chinas claims are based on legality. Since when were RUSvsUKr or PALvsISR based on legal claims?

@privacyfig "looks to me, an impartial observer, is that "legality" is in the eye of the beholder" No, it is recognised by the British that Qing China had sovereignty over Tibet. But when the British invaded Tibet, they signed a treaty with the local Tibetan government instead of with Qing - the power recognised to have actual authority in ceding territory as theyre the ones with actual sovereignty over the territory. So no its not in the eye of the beholder. The British knew they had no sovereignty nor power to cede territory, yet they signed an illegitimate treaty with them anyways. If its illegitimate, then the treaty and ceded territory is illegal.
