  5. adlerzwei Taiwan was never independent lol. Taiwan was first (completely) ruled by Qing China, then Japan, then Republic of China. Republic of China lost the civil war and retreated to Taiwan. Till this day, Taiwan is still governed by the Chinese state of Republic of China. Its even written in ROC's constitution that Taiwan is a Province of China. And no, they dont have their own military. China's only military is stationed in Taiwan. Called the Republic of China Armed Forces. Not "Taiwan" armed forces. They have the same uniform, same flag, same language, as when ROC ruled all of China.

When you are invaded and lost, and you are governed by another government, you lose all power to control anything and make any decisions. Civil war broke out between the 2 parties back in the days and ROC was on the losing end of the stick and retreated to Taiwan. Its even written in ROC's constitution that Taiwan is a province of China. *Technically speaking, the Peoples Liberation Army serves the CCP, not "China".
