Not your business Hes right. The British never gave HK democracy. Democracy was given to them by the Chinese. So obviously they set the rules.

RoniiNN A. The British appointed their own governor to govern HK. You honestly think people of HK had a "democratic" say in that?

Tmidiman Your "Nation of Taiwan" doesnt exist. Taiwan still flys ROCs flag, a Chinese flag. ROC claims to be the country called China, and written in its constitution refers to Taiwan as a Province of China. Dont spread fake news and propaganda.

Not your business HK was either ruled by the British or by China. Of course you need to compare those two. Which countries are you meant to compare it to if say its "incorrect"? Comparing anything besides those two are for irrational people.

Alan Root Why are you spreading fake news? HK never had democracy under the British administration. Democracy was given to them by the Chinese. So of course they set the ground rules.

@turbojames9769 "For all practical purposes Taiwan IS a different country from mainland China" A countrys governance is not for you to decide. Whether or not part of its territory is another "country" isnt another "country" for your own convenience. "The idiotic argument of the Chinese communist party is that any place where Chinese people live is part of China. That's how Hitler thought and then WW2 started. No, in the 21st century people who speak same language are not necessary the same country" That indeed is an idiotic argument. An argument I did not bring up. Why bring up something I wasnt speaking about? "Not to say that Hong Kong doesn't even speak the same language with the mainland" Oh yes they do. They speak Cantonese. Where did Cantonese originate from? Province of Canton, China. In fact there are more Cantonese speakers in Mainland China than there are in HK. But why are we speaking about HK again when I was speaking about Taiwan? 'But if the communists insist on "one country" with Taiwan then they're digging their own grave for a greater China will be democratic not communist.' Not only do the Communist insists on "One Country", the Nationalist also insist on "One Country".
