China made claims to the sea long before international laws even existed. And surrounding countries had been colonised for centuries. When you have been colonised you have no rights to claim any land or any territory.

parag sharma Wrong. You need to understand China's history when you answer that. A significant amount of Chinese Dynasties where ruled by non-Han(Chinese). But they all took on the throne as "Son of Heaven" with the "Heavenly Mandate" to rule "China". The Mongols indeed invaded "China" then, but they ruled as "Son of Heaven" with the "Heavenly Mandate" to rule "China". And so they ruled as Emperor of China (Yuan Dynasty) then, not as Emperor of Mongolia (Mongol Empire). Just like India, there are many ethnicity within the country. Many "Indian" Kingdoms were not "Indian". For example, Mughal Empire was established by Turk/Mongols from Central Asia. But India still considers that an Indian Empire. As for the Japanese, they only had prolonged control over lands near the sea. War is war. The war between Japan and China lasted many decades. So the Japanese never "conquered" or "colonised" China. Maybe just parts, like Taiwan.
