Ok so it was near China. Why is the US flying its military jets near China? Imagine if China flew near the US, what would the media say then?

@trostorff1 The question is not "within 12NM". Within 12NM is grounds for shooting it down. The question is why was US military jets there? That can be seen as provocation. As I mentioned earlier, what would the media say when Chinese jets flew-by near America? Not pretty I tell you. Even Chinese warships far out from Australias water near Australia caused quite a stir.

@aaddaarraakk The whole world (including the US) recognises that Taiwan is part of China. So China is flying near its own sovereign territory, whereas for the US, thats not the case. US action can be seen as provocation. And bombers are filled with bombs. Moreover, aircrafts is one thing, but armadas of destroyers and aircraft carriers?

@FigQc You know what uses less fuel? Not flying at all. Also, by not having military 900+ bases around the world. Clearly they dont care about fuel, they have plenty of that. Not even sure why youre using that as a point. Its not like theyre not going to make it to their destination if they detour slightly. And my point was what if it was the other way round, how would the US react? Imagine if China had military bases in Cuba, armed them up, and kept patrolling around that area with their military how would that news fare in the US?
