Oleksii Kolesnikov I know what you mean. But technically speaking, those are "Chinese" islands, including the island of Taiwan. Civil war hasnt technically ended yet, and Taiwan, officially called Republic of CHINA, claims to be the legitimate ruler of ALL of China including the mainland. The even once sat in the UN representing the country called China.

ComradeWinston Well a civil war ceasefire is a ceasefire. Taiwan (Republic of China) was the official government of China back in the days. They controlled the WHOLE countrys (China) military. When they retreated to Taiwan, they took literally ALL of the countrys navy to Taiwan and the surrounding islands, leading the new PRC government with no naval capabilities. Thats why PRC (new China) couldnt even invade the tiny islands even if they wanted to.

Theyre 98% ethnically Chinese whether they believe it or like it or not. The only "Taiwanese" are the Taiwanese native aboriginals. Yeh try doing with their constitution. DPP is a mere party, it alone cant change the constitution without support from the whole government. As long as their constitution hasnt changed, ROC still claims to be the legitimate government of China whether DPP wants it or not. It was by order of the UN that Korea is to be split into 2 to avoid war. No country or organisation should have the power to intervene in another countrys politics. Both Koreas still believe this is a temporary split, and the Korean people will eventually reunify. But because of UNs interference, they are deemed to be "2 countries", an irreversible mistake. "Modern wars for annexation are an insane concept to me, and I don't want them to come true ANYWHERE!" Trade wars, economic annexation. Information warfare (misinformation and disinformation), mass's intelligence(control) annexation. Just to name a few.

Krawlon Because civil war from the 1949 ceasefire hasnt technically ended yet. Civil war means war within the same country. So its ONE nation not 2.

So dont say "Taiwan" wants to change that when they cant even get approval to do that within their own government. ROC claims to be the legitimate government of ALL of China. If they want to change their name to ROT, then that means they forgo all the mainland territory. They clearly still want to hang on that that since they havent revoked their claim to the Mainland in their very own constitution. Im sure PRC wont mind that. But they still havent done so yet. "This way they can still claim that Taiwan belongs to the Communists (even though they have never held it)" ROC also never "held" onto Taiwan before claiming it. Same as Russia/Canada/USA/Australia to most of their territory. Most of their territory is untouched by their respective governments. Yet they still claim it

To someone that is not trained in any form of strategic planning especially in the military front, you call that an "excuse". Im sorry but thats called ignorance. It takes more than just might to win the hearts of the "enemy". After ww2, everything changed. We cant conquer in the same ways we used to anymore.

But just because civil war is still technically still ongoing doesnt mean theres no ceasefire. Even among full blown wars, theres ceasefire on special days or days agreed upon.

Countries are defined by sovereign borders and has NOTHING to do with ethnicity. My comment was in regards to "Taiwanese" claiming theyre not "Chinese". Theyre both Chinese by nationality AND ethnically. So their opinion is clearly wrong. Then China would be part of the Japanese Empire, "Japanese China" like British India if you will. The nationality of those conquered Chinese would be Japanese. Their ethnicity would be whatever they originally was and doesnt change. So to say theyre "not Chinese" like what the Taiwanese did, is absolutely incorrect. "Taiwan" never revoked their claim over Mainland territory. Their constitution still clearly refers to Taiwan as a Province (of China), they even have Tibet, Xinjiang etc in it.

I said just because technically theyre still in civil war, doesnt mean theres no ceasefire. If no bullets have been fired, it means theres a ceasefire. Firing literally has been ceased...

@frankartanis1290 Unofficial or not Im describing the literally situation: firing has been ceased, hence, ceasefire. The Christmas truce is also an unofficial ceasefire btw
