  1. Dig deeper. Considering US inflation, one 2011 us dollar was 100 cents, and now is 73 cents. The rest of the difference in dollar and rupee depreciation can be explained by the subsidy US dollar enjoys as the reserve currency across the globe. The subsidy keeps US inflation artificially low.

  2. Shri Rajiv Gandhi, former PM from Congress party said that only 15 paise of every rupee the govt spent reached people. With Shri Modi as PM, people are eating better because middlemen are swallowing less. In other words, hard data shows that he is a liberal in practice, not in slogans like the Congress.

  3. Govt should use policy to tweak what food gets processed. Engineer policies that encourage minimally processed foods like canned tomatoes and rajma, and discourage potato chips, breakfast cereals and a thousand varieties of snack mixtures. Taxation may be a route to achieving this.
