Getting a foot in the door is an insurmountable challenge for many. From my understanding of dharma, it is better for society that spreading that first opportunity in as random a manner as possible will ultimately produce the best outcomes for society. We can't mix up all professions in one basket. The stringency against nepotism has to be in direct proportion to the sphere of public influence the profession commands. A rough order of stringency in my view is politicians > cinema actors > big businesses > small businesses > etc. Talent may often succeed in the long run, but such long runs swallow up many a lifetime even within a generation.

@sampatkalyan3103 You are right that people probably like to restrict opportunity to family members or clan members. However, that is not a good model for a society to operate on. An ideal society would have more equal distribution of wealth than such a model would allow, while allowing that perfect equality is not naturally possible, even though Marxists continue to experiment with such foolish ideas. Besides fairness arguments, it also makes for a more efficient society, because ability and potential are not distributed only in (current) wealthy or powerful families. Hence, government laws should gently disallow such concentration of wealth and power and promote procedures that spread them around.

@sampatkalyan3103 Whatever floats your boat. I would suggest however also re-reading what I wrote.

This is what Shri Shekhar Gupta's Cut The Clutter could have been if he would venture a bit away from the tired Congress-BJP political cricket and bhajan of the 'west'.
