That 10k oil change is only good and recommended when the car is new and under warranty. After that you go back to the standard 5k oil change as the mileage rack up.

I never go by what the manufacturer says. Nothing last forever if you neglect them long enough. The more I drive, the more I check the oil and never let it turn pitch black. Motor oils do get burn out base on how hot your engine is. Especially when the engine is turn off and all the oil is just getting cooked til its cool down. Dark brown is usually the time it is in need of oil change and also the type of oil youre using. The higher quality oil is key to a happy engine. Same goes for tranny fluid. If its black or brown. It is time to change it asap. 11:10

My dad's 2009 toyota tacoma never had any issues after almost 260k mileage period. Regular maintenance and tune up is key to keeping the car running spanking new year after year. Only thing we had to replace was the starter which finally went out after 260k. Went and bought the original starter from toyota dealership and life is good again. And I change oil base on how often I drive the car and not by the recommended interval. The more you drive the faster yo u would have to change the oil when it is getting red dark color. Never when it is pitch black because that would be really bad for the engine. 4,500 mile oil change is key to keeping that engine running new year after year. All that crap about every 10K mile change is obsurd. I just go by the condition of the oil every 4,500 mile. The 10k is when the car is brand spanking new from the lot. After that just go by 4,500 t0 5000 miles at max.
