  1. All in all l think I would prefer one of the German or Swiss style vises with the fixed front jaw. Linen is one brand. But then l always preferred a milling machine vise with a fixed front jaw too. One reason was with a stop biased to the left side of the vise x and y were always positive values. Also the vises we used the front jaws were secured with bolt horizontally and vertically. And all clamping forces were applied to the front jaw. Not the vise body. Do a search for Quad 1 CNC mill vise.
