I think the myth about firing the guns at 90° to the centerline moving the ship comes from blast effect on the surface of the water.

In the future all US battleships will be equipped with Red Ryder BB guns. Let's hope they do not shoot their eyes out.

Egyptian cotton rapidly took over the cotton market during the Civil War. The CSA was never realistically in a position to gain a strategic victory during the ACW. The best it could hope for was to make victory too costly for the North.

Proper British atire circa 1900. "Dear I'm going out to my club. I need my umbrella and knife to cut the air."

Ah yes. The lint trap. Another issue in the laundry aside from fires I suppose would be potential vibrations from the washing machine.

And what became the United States would enter into status similiar to Canada possibly quicker. Although I do think that the political entity in that TL would still expand to the West Coast

Sir you hit the nail squarely on the head. Any time a politician of any stripe is critical of spending in one area that does not mean they simply want to eliminate that much spending from the budget. It usually means they fo want to spend that money (and likely more) on their bright idea.

Coronado is connected by land but it is a long drive south to Imperial Beach (aka Venereal Bitch). Last time I was in San Diego the bridge was free going to Coronado. The toll was for the return trip.

Add in the potential for a revolution at home. Be an interesting timeline. Resulting in a possible British Republic in 1870. Just what was Victoria's position vis a vi slavery and the CSA

Reminds me of the time when Ohio and Michigan went to war and Wisconsin lost. Wisconsin wound up losing its potential share of the Upper Peninsula along with all of the iron and copper. Along with the silver and gold associated with the copper deposits. To this day you can still find natural copper just laying on the ground in the UP. In the ACW case Poland lost. A victim of geography.

@LeCharles07 In a future war with France the Empire just might settle for taking Louisiana
