  1. One template for space colonization could well be what happens on the Moon. To prevent squabbling over potential resources we may well see the lunar surface partitioned off into "Zones of Influence". Even then minor countries who have no potential to expand into space operations will attempt to short circuit any attempts to benefit from resource extraction thru the UN Treaty on Space.
