In 1654 the Danish Royal Guard used repeating flintlock rifles capable of firing 30 shots before reloading to defeat Swedish troops in Copenhagen. Don't ever let somebody tell you that such weapons did not exist until recently. Go to Forgotten Weapons for a video on this

And if it's a comedy the captain should be a woman named von Blucher. With horses winnieing in the background of course.

All of Eco's novels are big and complex. It still amazes me that The Name of the Rose actually got turned into a film.

The Titanic also had provisions in her design to allow for the mounting of naval artillery so she could be employed as an auxiliary cruiser. Although in case of ar it would make more sense to employ her as either a transport or hospital ship. As hers sisters Olymic and Britanic were.

30 years or so ago our local PD went from .38 Special Revolvers (1) to semiauto. My brother in law headed up the selection process. They went to .45 ACP vs 9mm because they wanted to avoid over penetration.

The lowliest Private who is a MOH winner does not have to salute any officer up to and including a 5 star general. The officer salutes HIM.

One comment here. No technology is ever truely obsolete. It may be surpassed. It may be outmoded. But it is never truely obsolete. If it can still be used in some form it is not obsolete. Ever since the 70s and the first oil embargo we've been hearing about the return of commercial sailing or wind powered vessels. Hasn't really happened yet with the exception of some limited use. I have a hard time imagining a wind powered container ship. Eventually if one of the non mainstream fusion programs is successful then we will see electrically driven fusion powered vessels. One of these fusion projects was actually funded by the US Navy as a potential means to both free ships from fueling constraints on range and operating costs. And also to provide the required power for advanced weapons systems. Lasers and kenetic energy rail guns

What war is. We often seem to forget that the word great has multiple uses. One being of course the positive one. It can also be used to express a meaning of being large. Hence the Great or Large War. In the US we normally just call The First World War or WWI. Although I think its debatable whether or not it was the first. The first may actually have been the American Revolutionary War* or the prolonged Nepoleonic War(s) * the American Revolutionary War eventually involved all of the major European powers with the conflict involving action in theaters far removed from the Eastern Seaboard of North America

The worst military aircraft ever ordered into production probably was built by Brewster

One of my teachers in High School told his father was a conductor on the Santa Fe railroad and he saw the flash from the Trinity Test light up the clouds. BS? Don't know.

There is more than one Christmas Island. If there can be more than one Portland or London etc etc why not.
