  2. What about the Basque? Granted there j.g as probably been a lot of admixture from other groups. Anatolian farmers, Germanic tribes etc. Personally I don't buy the ancient total population replacement idea. The Old European Hunter Gatherers probably were never really that numerous. Instead of being wiped out by the incoming Anatolian farmers or pastoral steppe Indo Europeans they were likely just absorbed. Just as in Britian the various migrations were more absorbed into the genetic population group even if those Celts, Angles, Saxons or Jutes did impose their language and culture on the natives thru intermarriage etc.
