My first wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer. After receiving radiation treatment for multiple brain lesions she suffered either a massive stroke or aneurism. In accordance with her previously stated wishes I refused to put her on life support. She had been put on O2 in the ambulance. She passed that night. It was hard to do but I had to honor her wishes. In my opinion she actually was lucky in that she did not linger in pain for months. Plus our children did not have to see it. In this case I feel for the family but at some point you have to let go. This young boy had zero. Absolutely zero chance of recovery. His continuing to be kept on life support by the parents wishes is in my opinion selfish. That bed in the ICU unit could well have been desperately needed by someone else who would have a very high chance of recovery. I think his parents should have been counseled early on that it was in the boys best interests to simply let him go peacefully.
