What about habital moons orbiting Super Earths.

@PlanetGuy901 As big as the universe is it has to have happened. Even more unlikely is intelligent tool making species on both planets at the same time.

@PlanetGuy901 Just using the Earth-Moon system is working from a sample of One. I expect that habitual (1) moons are more common around Gas Giants than Super Earths. But still not common. 1) Define "habitual" first. I suspect the most common life bearing worlds will be a water world of some sort. Either moons either ice covered oceans or worlds lacking in appreciable land or lacking it. Even if life bearing worlds occur at a rate of 1 every thousand star systems thats a lot of life bearing worlds in the galaxy much less the universe.

There may be no nearby habitable planets. Nearby in astronomical terms. But, if humanity is ever able to take the leap to interstellar flight it will not matter. By that time technology will be so far in advance of what we have today that it would be just as easy to build space habitats even while teraforming any usable planets. Barren planets incapable of being teraformed would wind up being huge strip mines.
