  2. Putting large numbers of offensive or defensive missiles into a few targets is very risky. One aspect of the concept is that arming a few hulls could pretty much take all of the missiles the US Navy had at the time. I still yhink the concept of a ship designed to take morular systems makes a certain amount of sense. The ships crew operates the ship and its organic helicopters. Crew asigned to the modules operate the modules. Most modules would be likely be air defense ones equipped with SM-1 missiles. Additional modules could be oriented towards ASW, drone operations or even to provide artillery support for Amphibious operations. If the ship pulls into port with an empty missile magazine off load the that module and swap it out for a full one. If the ship gets assigned to support an Amphibious goup replace two modules with modules equipped with 155mm guns
