I'd say a lot of evidence of violent events on the Moon has been erased. By even bigger violent events. Such as the impact events that formed the Mare.

I had a physical science book in the early 60s that discussed continental drift. The idea was out there. Nobody had a mechanism to describe it.

Wegener's big problrm was he had no way to describe the means by which the plates move across the Earth's surface. In the 70s l had a paperback of popilar science columns that Issac Asimov had written. In one he commented on how deep ocean trenches were often flanked by volcanic islands. And nobody knew why. Dates the article. I think thre should be a major science prize for the people who come up with ideas that everybody says are wrong and turns out out to be right. Call it the Wegener Prize.

Thank the US Navy for the research. A lot of basic oceanic research was funded by the Navy for it's own purposes. One purpose involved detecting subs by magnetic sensors.

@metalema6 The location changes all the time. My father had a German military compass that had offsets on the case for directional corrections. By pole swapping is a whole different thing
