Lack of preparedness. Lack of awareness. And outright stupidity. These can kill you. If you live where there is any chance of cold weather always keep an old blanket in your car. At a minimum. If traveling in cold weather, especially on roads with little traffic you can be risking your life or a loved ones life. Warm coats. Mittens instead of gloves. And good footwear and socks. And something to cover your head.

Yah, they had a bad year up in the mountains. The Sierras get a lot of snow. Now if you stored more of the spring runoff maybe your water problems wouldn't be so bad. Or it could be that most of your population lives in a desert?

Any one who has to use a snow shovel should look at the thumbnail yo this video. If you have a shovel with a straight handle. Get rid of it and switch to one of these. Your back will thank you. Also the best shovel for clearing out driveway approaches after the plow goes by is a long handle shovel meant for shoveling dirt or stone from a pile.

AWD & 4WD (not the same thing) are nice. But they are not a cure all. They can engender a false sense of security. I had an XJ for a few years. Bought it used and I loved it in winter weather (1). Only had the 4 cylinder so it wasn't overpowered. 1) Except for the heater. Took forever to warm up in zero F and below weather.

Oh my God, we're all gonna die! Sometimes when it snows you have to go out in it. But if it isn't needed. STAY THE F@#/ HOME!.

@dozergames2395 Seems as though the newsies are never ready for any amount of snow.

@plowe6751 Probably. It's the "hey, I've got four wheel drive" attitude. 4WD is not a cure all. When it's icey you still have 4 wheel brakes like everybody else. And it's not just Subaru drivers. When I was still working for every FWD or RWD car I saw in the ditch I saw at least one vehicle with 4WD or AWD. From all brands. The problems is the loose nut behind the wheel. I wonder how the electric cars with all the battery weight are doing in winter conditions. Extra traction maybe. But extra inertia when stopping. And in sub zero just how much range penalty is there. Not just from the cold but running the heater.
