Artillery can engage tanks from way outside the range of the tanks main guns.

No nation has an unlimited pool of manpower.

The Soviets did execute large numbers numbers of Polish officers. That was done for political reasons. Not out of vengeance.

@MilitaryHistoryVisualized Just look at the Sherman being called the "Ronson". I'll accept the Tommy Cooker. The Sherman was held up as being prone to fire due to its fuel. Yet nobody says anything about all the other tanks that u see d petrol. The Sherman's that burned early were usually burned because of ammunition fires. Wet stowage largely eliminated that problem. Was the Sherman inferior to the Panther. Tactically yes. Strategically no. Let's not forget the Panther weighed 10 tons more than the Sherman. A lot of that was in the frontal armour. Plus the Panther had arguably the best tank gun of WWII. But myths persist. As much are they are dispelled. They get to be resurrected.

The Luftwaffe losses would also include paratroopers KIA

One question. How does the Eastern Front deaths per day correspond to the average number of deaths per day in the German population pre war? There has to be data on that somewhere.

Agreed. Desperate to the last man defenses. Plus anyone with any brains was likely trying to get as far West as possible.

@nightshade4186 I don't think it does. Actually in terms of the title number of deaths per year should also include civilian deaths.

Oh my, tank units lied about their strength to their superiors. Tactically the Big Cats could hold their own against any of the Allied tanks provided several criteria were met. An open tactical enviroment offering open fields of fire. Range advantage. Being able to control the range of engagement is crucial. Even if the opponent can see you if he cant hit you at that range it's to your advantage. Lack of enemy artillery. Artillery fire is going to reduce your vision drastically. Especially if you enemy is firing a combination of rounds. Air burst, contact fuses and smoke. And that is the most crucial IMO. The western Allies especially the Americans with time on target artillery fire from multiple batteries and multiple shell sizes. The air bursts are going to strip off your supporting infantry. Either by casualties or simply driving them to cover. Contact fuses throwing erupting cololums of soil into the air will partially degrade your vision. Smoke will degrade even worse. Once the enemy brings his numbers to bear in close you only have three options. Fight and die in place, retreat or surrender. In the end #3 is best as far as the crew is concerned. As far as Germany is concerned, they just should have stayed home

In terms of Allied fighter aces. The leading US ace, Richard Bong, is credited with 40 victories. The actual number of air raft shot down are actually unknown. He would fly missions with no gun camera film and land either out of ammunition or nearly so. He had to be shooting at something. If their was no proof. He would not make any claims. Granted he was flying in the Southwest Pacific. Logistically pretty much a shoestring theater for the US
