  1. As a 69 year old boomer I for one have never figured out why most pickup owners even have a pickup. Or have a real use for one. Pickups originally were meant as work trucks for farmers and other occupations that needed to be able to haul the materials and tools needed. By extensions vans fall into the same category. The van added in delivery services. Today about the only thing a truck bed of the average pickup owner is going to see is the occasional item used in yard maintenance or a piece of furniture. That's if they even have a yard. What is a pickup truck useful for 1) Hauling bulky items. Hopefully items you need to move often* 2) Towing. This I can see if someone has a boat that needs to be trailered. Or does a lot of camping at different camp grounds. If you have a trailer parked at campground all season just rent a truck to move it st the start and end of the season. I cringe when I see somebody with an extended cab with dualies using it as as daily driver. And i do not feel sorry for them when fuel prices spike. *For a lot of people a minivan is actually more useful.
