  1. I'm wondering if part of this is to move the capital to an area that is under less threat to volcanic eruptions. Looking at a map of volcanoes in the country Borneo and Western New Guinea* are the only major land areas without any active or potentially volcanoes. Sometimes I think the US should move the capital from DC to somewhere with really nasty weather. Not that DC doesn't. It used to be considered a hardship post for foreign diplomats. I'm thinking somewhere like Fargo or maybe Bismarck in North Dakota. Someplace with about a 140°F temperature swing between highs and lows. At least move all the unelected officials there. *I can't remember just what the Indonesians call the region.
