Comments by "mpetersen6" (@mpetersen6) on "Could USS Iowa have stood up to the might IJN Yamato if the two had met?" video.
Several factors here 1) No Iowa Class would of been cruising solo. But the neither would the Yamato. Two Iowas would rapidly maul the Yamato due to superior fire control, speed which they would use to control the engagement and rate of fire 2) Escorting vessels. IJN destroyers and cruisers equipped with Long Lance torpedoes might be a significant factor. These may be offset by USN escorts depending on type. If the Iowas are escorted by US cruisers with high rates of fire then the IJN escorts are toast 3) The USN is reading the IJN's mail. It will know when the Yamato sails unless all orders are delivered by currier. Damage control in terms of fire etc is in the USN's favor. 4) Luck. The Bismark hitting the Hood in just the right spot was a true golden BB. One estimate I've seen was if the range had dropped a little more things may have turned out a little different. 5) And this is most important. In reality both the Yamato and the Iowa's were to valuable an asset to be risked cruising alone.
