@mannylikestoanimate No. We know there was an English seaman who got shipwrecked in Japan. It makes an interesting story and TV show. But we know he didn't change Japan. Both he and the black individual were mere blips in the history of Japan. About as significant as Henry VIII's trumpet player.

@candy-le4nh In some ways l am. But l also realize that entertainment is limited by the tools they have at hand. Personally l have no issue with using black actors in a production of Shakespeare. It's about the language, not the flipping actors anyway. But racial substitution for historical persons just to score points or claiming that X was black, gay, trans or whatever because it makes the backers feel good is horseshit. You may as well cast a Scotsman as Shaka Zulu (1). 1) Tell me the Zulu were not an expansionist imperial state.

Its a video game. They can make up what ever they want. The problem arises with people so shallow they accept it as reality. The same with Britian has Always Been a Nation of Immigrants. To a degree that's true. Over the last few millennia there have been a few waves of immigration into Britain (and back and forth between Britian and Ireland). The early Celts probably moved in and changed the previous Bell Beaker culture. The Angles, Jutes and Saxons immigration certainly changed the culture of Southern England. As did Danes and Norwegians in the North. The Normans certainly put their own veneer over Britain. But in each of these immigrations the native population was never pushed aside. Languages may have have changed. Religions changed starting with Christian Romans. But the immigrations were more like close genetic cousins moving in next door.
