There are cases when adapting a literary work set in one social environment to another with ethnically appropriate actors to that environment work. A lot of Shakespeare can be done this way. The Scottish Play (1) could be adapted to just about any society. The Film Ran by Kurosawa is a good example. West Side Story is Romeo and Juliet to New York City's housing projects. Forbidden Planet is just The Tempest. But if you do the adapting to really be believable IMO it needs to be set in that ethnic environment. Personally I'd like to see the BBC adapt a non European work into a project set in a ethnically appropriate Britian for its time period. Just to see if they have the guts to do so. But no, the BBC (2) will continue to blackwash other works while likely trying to insist they portray an accurate image of the period. The individuals that insist on continueing to do this should remember one thing. Just because you have the freedom to do this. Everyone else has the freedom not to watch or buy into it. 1) Macbeth for those who do not get the reference 2) Along with other production companies. Netflix comes to mind.

@Gillby47 Is this an adaptation of Cornwell's Winter King? If so listen to the audio version.
