@daieast6305 And often the heroes barely qualify as such. And some 'heroes' were in favor of gun control to some degree. But then firearms and alcohol really do not mix well.

The Second Amendment says not one word about firearms. It speaks to 'arms' in a general sense which includes, firearms, edged weapons etc. Firearms were fairly common in 18th Century America. But not as common as some believe. Guns along with powder and shot were not cheap. And amongst those that had and used them they were viewed as a tool. A tool that could help put food on the table as well as a tool that could be used for defense. Some say an armed society is a polite society. Others will say a civil society has no need for arms. Unfortunately we have neither a polite or civil society today. The founders (1) knew that any weapon could be used for ill. But they also realized that the weapon does not commit the crime. The perpetrator does. And if anyone thinks only weapons can be deadly instruments let them sit on a jury considering assault with a deadly weapon one time. I have. The weapon in this case was a cell phone. Being used to beat the victim in the head. To clarify just what a deadly weapon can be the assistant DA explained if you attempt to smother someone with a pillow that pillow is a deadly weapon. 1) You know.
