Myself if suburbs or new residential areas must be built l would prefer to see the front of housing (single, duplex and up to quadplex) face a pedestrian/cycling oriented single lane one way "street". Tree lined of course. (1) Enough to accommodate emergency vehicles. But with cars banned. With alleys on the back side of the lots. With the alleys also being one way and slightly wider. No housing facing the cross streets. Which are also one way. Every 6 or 8 blocks have short sections of cross streets reserved for multiuse buildings for small businesses. All neighborhoods centered around a park and elementary school. Every 16 blocks have a main arterial avenue with a secondary arterial in between. "Express" transit (trolleys, busses or trams") runs on main arterial avenues. These stop at cross streets with comercial use. Secondary avenues with transit stop at more regular stops. And all streets and avenues are numbered. All too often with naming streets their are outliers. An example would streets named for trees with a state name or president mixed in.
