+jbscotchman Open Range with Devaul (sp) and Costner. Beautifully photographed, great script, solid preformances. The best western since Tombstone. A close second is Appolloosa with Ed Harris and Vigo Mortensen . Both far better westerns than Unforgiven or the remake of True Grit. Although Seleck has done some decent work notably Monty Walsh

@yddub111 95% of the dialog is lifted straight out of the book. R B Parker knew how to write dialog. Wish th hey would of done a couple of sequels

The first two on this list should be Korngold's score for The Sea Hawk and The Adventures of Robin Hood. Followed by Amadeus.

And Korngold preceeded them all. I'll put up Robin Hood, The Sea Hawk and Captain Blood against anything the moderns have done. Especially given the recording technology of the day. Plus his scores matched the mood of the scene.
