Remember, the RAF, the Air Ministry did everything they could to block the sale and use of the Wright D-12 in the UK. The D-12 was likely the best aviation engine of its type at the time.

@TyrannoJoris_Rex The Russians (1) had one major advantage over the West when it came to aircraft development. At least at that time. If Joe said l want this. Multiple design agencies got busy. Britain and France were broke. Even the US could not spend endless money. And then there is Congress. 450+ egotistical fools who all believe they are the smartest person in the room. On any subject.

@wbertie2604 One way was by failing it for certification. Or at least delaying it. When Fairey did finally get the engine certified the moment had passed. One Fairey D-12 (named Felix) did do, was kick RR in the rear on starting development of cast block liquid cooled engines. Something Napier didn't do until the Sabre. If the engine had entered production and the tooling still existed in the late 30s the D-12 or it later brother the Conqueror would have made great tank engines.
