In the recent past Chicago was threatening to sue the cities in SE Wisconsin for its water quality problems. The shore currents in Lake Michign circle counterclockwise. In reality the source of Chicagos water problem was the geese concregrating on Chicago's beaches.

It had been a very dry summer with dry warm conditions lasting pretty much up to the time of the fires. In terms of loss of life the one in Pestigo was far worse than the Chicago fire. Thee fires also happened the same time the Earth passes through the debris that follows the same orbital path as Halley's Comet. There is some thought that the fires resulted from meteors that struck while still hot enough to cause fires. The fires in Wisconsin and Lower Michigan along with the Chicago fire all pretty much started at the same time.

The North Shore actually ran through the Nash property in Kenosha. Large sections of the right-of-way in Wisconsin is now bike trails

They did raise street levels. Then the buildings needed to be jacked up to match the new street level.

@jantschierschky3461 Just about every major city has seen wide spread fires in the past.

@morewi There used to be a completely different interurban that ran from Kenosha to Milwaukee paralleling the Cheap and Nothing Wasted Lakeshore Line.

Remember when they wanted to start a service from Kenosha to Milwaukee using the C&NW right of way.

@matapan08 Actually I can take Metra from Kenosha into Chigago. Only it runs as a local making every single stop.
2
@matapan08 there should be no reason you can't have both.

Yes Metra still runs from Kenosha to Union Station. Only thing is you stop at every single station. Still it is convenient if you work in Downtown or you are going down for an event. I worked with a guy that lives in Padock Lake. When he had to travel for work he would take the Metra from Antioch to O'Hara. I think he had to switch trains once.

When we went to Oahu on vacation we went for a ride one day. Stopped at an overlook. There was a beach below. I looked carefully and recognized it. The one used as a filming location for "From Here to Eternity". That beach looked exceptionally dangerous to me.
