"You can also see this in their language, they have a different word for a Russian who is a Russian ethnicity to their view, versus a Russian who is not" Could you please name this two different words? Examples would help to understand what you are talking about.

@MrJuliancarroll "Russki and Rossiiskii." Thank you. Russkii is an ethnic Russian, but Rossiiskii does not mean Russian citizen of non Russian ethnicity. I am not aware there are two words for Russian citizens depending on ethnicity. EDIT: To be more specific "Rossiiskii" says nothing about ethnicity. It links something to the state of Russia, like Russian Academy of..., Russian industry, Russian scientists etc.

@RapidAssaultEuro "Русский (Russian) means someone who is from the Russian ethnic group." - That is correct. "Россиянин (Russian) means someone who has Russian citizenship, but isn't ethnically Russian." - That is new to me. Россиянин is a citizen of Russian Federation regardless of ethnic group. - If Россиянин means someone who has Russian citizenship, but isn't ethnically Russian, what is the word for someone who has Russian citizenship and is ethnically Russian? "You can never become русский, it is a matter of blood. Shows that they will never truly integrate outsiders into their society." - Jeez Louise, where do I begin? Russia is a multinational state with ca. 190 ethnic groups nationwide. Do you really believe 189 of them are never truly integrated into Russian society outsiders? - Ethnic group is more than a matter of blood. I am not aware of any you can easily change to. - Russia is not the only place on Earth where citizenship and national identity are not the same.

@imcbocian "Roosskiy is ethnic Russian,"- That is correct. "and Rossiyanin is every russian citizen of other ethnicity." - In which Russian dictionary did you look up the definition of Rossiyanin? Rossiyanin is any citizen of Russian Federation regardless of ethnicity. If you are right, what is the word for ethnic Russian citizens of Russian Federation? "In some cases i can imagine calling ethnic Russian "Rossiyanin," - Every ethnic Russian who also is citizen of Russian Federation is rossiyanin. "but there is no way someone would call Tatar, Bashkir or Avar "Roosskiy" - Why should someone call Tatar, Bashkir or Avar "Roosskiy" if they are not? That would mean ignoring their national identity. But everyone would call Tatar, Bashkir or Avar "Rossiyanin" if they are citizens of RF.

@marcm. Thank you for your reply, I would very appreciate if you could find that video. Russian is my mother tongue and I would describe this words differently. "One is use for a Russian and they must be if Russian ethnicity." Right, one of the meanings of russkii is someone of Russian ethnicity. On russkii/ he is Russian is the same as he is Dutch or he is a Dane. Rossiiskii says nothing at all about ethnicity. This word links something to the state of Russia. Like Russian Academy of..., Russian industry, Russian science etc. To differentiate between ethnically Russian and someone of other ethnic group one would: - name that other group - say Russians and other ethnic groups or - simply say not Russian. There is also rossijanin for citizen of Russian Federation regardless of ethnicity. So, Russian can be translated as - russkij - ethnically Russian, - rossijanin - Russian citizen of any ethnicity, - rossijskij - of Russian state. I sincerely can not remember any very exclusionary term used to differentiate between the main ethnicity vs everyone else.
