  1. Macaques do this all the time. They're used to interacting with humans, regularly steal food, and have learned that stealing other belongings from humans means the humans will trade food to get the objects back. Usually they steal phones, glasses, hats, and whatever else isn't nailed down or held tightly. So if they come across something wrapped in a package and stored by humans, obviously it has to be food.
