Not only is it in line with Russian state propaganda to say that Ukraine doesn't stand a chance of defending themselves, it's also a logistical myth, and one that is often perpetuated by those trying to justify western powers escalating with Russia. If you consider where Russia's military budget goes, a lot of it is for branches that simply don't come into play in a conflict like this. The invasion was also horribly mismanaged with incompetent decisions and misallocated resources everywhere. There is no "second wave" that Putin is going to send in after the initial wave of "cannon fodder." He's already sent in a lot of modern equipment and high ranking officers. What the US needs to do though is to remember that this is a humanitarian crisis, first and foremost, and work on helping the Ukrainian refugees in any way possible.
