Something I've never understood. Your opening sequence was all about the different types of 16" rounds, but they were basically all full bore AP / APBC. Why did large calibre naval gunnery stay with that technology? I ask as an Armoured Corps Officer, I'm familiar with the evolution from say AP to APBC to APDS and now APFSDS. A 16" APFSDS round would seem to provide much better KE / penetration effects. A modern 120mm Tk gun can impart a muzzle velocity of around 1500 - 1700 m/s for an APFSDS round. Perhaps its harder to achieve very high muzzle velocities with large diameter naval guns? Maybe they just had sufficient stocks of existing ammunition types? Perhaps the move to missiles made the research into more advanced ammunition natures redundant?
