  1. USN vs RN would be an application of Train hard, Fight easy. Having a "near peer" OPFOR forces you to be serious. If the USN planned to fight say Iceland it would not have proved beneficial against the IJN. This continues today with say the Large Scale Global Exercise, Ex Talisman Sabre, etc.
