  1. Didn't the rift between China and the USSR start on the USSR side - because Mao wouldn't follow orders? Stalin decided to support Mao when Cash-My-Cheque was the Chinese leader, because he saw Mao as the strongest and most likely to succeed (he was right there) but Mao got too big and made his own decisions. A not insignificant fact was that when Stalin invited Mao to Moscow, Mao, although very intelligent, turned out to be very poor on personal hygiene and wasn't toilet trained. Relations were never the same after that.
