  1. Asianometry said the Indian TDC-12 vacuum tube computer, the size of 5 large fridges, was said to be similar to the DEC PDP-8, a transistor "flip-card" desktop computer. Well, they were both 12-bit as seen by the programmer. That's a bit like saying a tuk-tuk is the same as a Mercedes Benz car - after all they both have wheels.

  2. At 1:43, Asianomentry said that India lost the India-Sino War. Huh? What? It was China who lost that one. They suddenly withdrew their troops from territory they had invaded and went home, and agreed the border should stay where it was,. They did that when the US, Britain AND the USSR came in on the side of India, supplying military hardware, and this meant that China a) could not win, and b) they would have been on the nose with virtually the whole world. This is a major error, unusual for Asianometry, and more or less makes the remainder of this video invalid, as he claimed that the impetus to create a domestic computer industry stemmed from loosing the war.

The Wikipedia article on the 1962 war says what I said - the war ended when Chow En Lai withdrew Chinese troops and ended it. You ask me for a citation - well I gave you the key citation - Chow En Lai's letter, which Wikipedia in fact quotes. Sure, the Chinese killed Indians and took some prisoners. That's what military forces do. So what? It doesn't mean they won. Did North Korea win against the USA because they took many prisoners? No, the big picture is that the North were driven back north of the predefined border. They couldn't finish what they started - they achieved nothing - they lost. In World War 2, China and the USSR had the most people killed in action, far more than any other nation that was in WW2. Does that mean they lost? Nope - they were on the winning side in that war. Are you Chinese? You seem to share their penchant for trying to rewrite history, cherry picking minor details. The facts are clear: In October 1962 China started a war in an attempt to seize territory that was defined as Indian in 1914. One month later the Chinese threw in the towel and the border stayed where it was. The Chines achieved nothing - they won a battle or two but lost the war.

The fact is - After a lot of mutual huffing and puffing over a few years, China began the war with attacks on 20 October 1962. On 19 November 1962 China's Chou En Lai ordered Chinese troops to withdraw 20 km back from the existing border and the war was over. He did that because he saw that with both the USA and the USSR aiding India, China could not win. If Fred picks a fight with Bill, it doesn't matter if Bill knocks him out, or two big bruisers come along and side with Bill, and cause Fred to chicken out, well Fred has still lost and Bill has won. It matters not whether Bill is a good fighter or not. Khruschev in particular did not like Mao, and saw the war as Mao's way of forcing Khruschev's hand in driving world communism, but Khruschev turned it around and made it a way to put Mao back in his box. Go read up on the subject, before you post a guess.

  6.  @Cj-hy8cy  : I notice you haven't been able to come up with a citation to back your claim that an Indian PM said India lost the 1962 war. Since Chou En Lai ordered Chinese troops back 20 km inside China, and stated that the existing border (The "Line of Control" agreed in 1914 and detailed in 1959) still stood - and you can google and read Chou En Lai's 19/11/1962 letter - it means China gave up on its 1962 aggression and won nothing. They failed. They lost. Nehru never actually agreed to the Line Of Control - he wanted to seize territory from China, past the LOC - but that doesn't mean India lost the war or lost anything in the war other than some battles. It may be that India got screwed in the LOC agreement, but that pre-dates the war. Ever since, China has in its own history books, claimed to have secured its borders against Indian encroachment, and claimed to have won the war. the first claim is dubious and the second nonsense. But that's what China does - it declares black is white when it suits it to do so. Just like it tried to claim that COVID originated in the USA.

The photograph he used, shows a multi-rack system that is typical of a relay or vacuum tube computer. in 1969 I used a DEC PDP-8 myself. It was a desktop computer about the size of a single-drawer filing cabinet. This was an 8K machine - it could be had as an extended memory machine, taking a maximum 3 file cabinet draws in volume. Why was the TDC-12 so large, if it was transistorised and even vaguely comparable to the PDP-8? The PDP-8 was hardly a marvel of compact construction. Each of its' flip-cards, each about 120 x 60 mm, had enough transistors and diodes etc to make 2 or 3 gates.
