This reminds me of Project Cybersyn, an utterly flawed and ridiculous attempt by the Marxist Allende government of Chile 1971-73. Cybersyn was supposed to link all factories, mines, and agricultural production to a central control centre. In the centre a group of commanders was supposed to monitor everything via real time computer displays and react to bottlenecks & supply chain issues by issuing immediate directives. They would have needed more computers, links, and computer technicians than were in the world at the time to do that. Plus display technology not available for another 10 years. What was actually built was a few clerks making coloured slides by hand, back projected onto screens so that the commanders could pretend to be managing everything via pretend real time computers. When Allende lost government, Cybersyn was immediately abandoned. Somehow the Allende government sucked themselves into hiring a Stafford Beer to devise Cybersyn. Beer was a nut case English university operational research theorist with no practical computer experience.
