Tyler, it is not as mad as a certain Australian state government, who have purchased a fleet of hydrogen powered cars, because hydrogen powered engines are 'net-zero'' as the only engine emission is steam. Of course they need large quantities of hydrogen - this is obtained from specially installed refueling stations that extract hydrogen from water by electrolysis. The electricity authority's distribution could not supply enough power so they installed big diesel-powered generators! Why not just have diesel powered cars?

I thought MGUY would have pointed out that electric busses are NOT net-zero - because the batteries need to be charged - from the power mains - electricity from a power station, typically run on fossil fuel. This is the inconvenient fact that the greenies ignore. If a city wants to have electric busses - the solution is obvious: use 1930's technology - trolley buses powered from overhead cables - works well, no need for troublesome invertor electronics, no big lithium batteries, high efficiency, no down time for charging, unlimited range, no fire risk. Still not net-zero of course. MGUY is wrong about climate change though. He states that the Earth has been around for millions of years. So it has, but in most of that time it has had a climate that modern humans couldn't tolerate. Whether the current warming up is mostly a remnant of coming out of the last little ice age or due to human-caused CO2 emissions remains uncertain. But there IS warming, and we humans have to manage that. Just not with silly battery powered vehicles.

MGUY apparently likes gas powered busses. The Western Australian government learnt the hard way that gas is not a good idea. A number of gas powered busses caught fire and were a total loss. They burn about as well as lithium batteries, and often were totally burnt out before the fire brigade got there. One came close to destroying a 10-storey city building. it is true that gas powered bus engines are low emission compared to gasoline, but the normal diesel powered engines are just as low as gas in climate-affecting emission - the CO2.
