@alankemp1970 : You do some research. EV simply does not scale for distance. It does for payload but not for distance. Those Volvo trucks are good for city deliveries only, such as Just-In-time delivery of grocery lines from warehouse to nearby retail shops. It is potentially a worthwhile market but only a small part of the trucking total. I worked for a while for a truck engine dealer. Because of Australia's long distances between centres of population, i was involved in modifying diesel engines with extra oil filters, supplementary oil storage, etc, to triple the service intervals - so truckies could make one decent round trip without the down time of servicing. There is no way an EV can compete with that.

It doesn't matter whether it is a big vehicle or a small one, for every technology there is a limit on range and performances. For EV's you can increase battery capacity, and you then increase the weight of the vehicle, until nearly all the total weight is the battery. For current lithium technologies, that means a range of about 1600 km, but of course such a vehicle is useless. That's why the best EV range in EV's you can buy is about 800 km, and the battery weighs about half the total. People talk about EV in freight haulage, but that is never going to work for other than inner city courier service. If you built a diesel vehicle, a 2-person sedan or a heavy haulage truck with fuel capacity half the total weight, the range would exceed something like 20,000 km, taking into account it would get lighter as it goes along.

@crashnreset6987 : Good point. But there is an immense need for personal transport. For instance, I need to pick up some consumables from bunnings, then go to my aged mother's home and cut her grass. It is just way to expensive to run train tracks to cover everyone''s personal needs.

Careful, MGUY. Sure, the Cybertruck is ugly and not a good idea. But the VW Beetle was also an ugly little heap of overheating crap. So much so that when it became available as war reparations, various country's car making experts turned it down, saying the Germans can keep it. It sold in millions. Turns out hordes of women and students all over the world thought it cute and they liked not having to check the coolant - it was too cheap & nasty to have coolant. Having said that, it seems to me that Tesla is aiming the Cybertruck at the US redneck market (the ones that dress as cowboys and go to local bars in their F250's), where power and bullet tolerance is a good thing. It is not aimed at tradies. I expect it will never go on sale in Australia. We don't have enough rednecks.
