This guy has no idea what he is talking about. He's largely made up his story. Carl Norden was born in the Dutch Eat Indies of Dutch parents - he was not Swiss as this scruffy turkey claims. He says bombardiers had to input wind speed into the Norden bombsight. The did not - it in effect works out the wind speed after the bombardier adjusts rate knobs so as to make the target stay fixed in the built in telescope. And so on, with more bull as he carries on.

An entertaining talk, but Gladwell speculates far too much. I've known several men and one woman well over 6 foot, one man well over 7 foot (he was an electronics technician who had risen to supervisor. He drove a car with the front seat removed) but none had anything wrong with them as far as eyesight, physical ability or intelligence goes. Large size was just in their genes, with other tall people in their families. Gladwell doesn't actually make much sense - if Goliath is as useless due to a brain tumour as he suggests, why would they send him in to be the challenger in a one-on-one combat? As slow and with eyesight as bad as Gladwell claims, he couldn't win against almost anyone. Gladwell also puts way too much emphasis on things like sticks plural vs stick singular. The bible we know today has gone through many successive translations - this sort of detail cannot be relied on. Many scholars believe even the name David as shown in the King James version is wrong. This is why the bible is written in parables - individual words and sentences can be added/deleted/miss-translated over time, but the overall stories stay pretty constant and the moral in each fairly consistently deduced.. The fact that Goliath had an attendant means nothing. Such grunts equipped with expensive body armour and weapons often did.
