I love how the boofhead's wife just sits there showing no interest, other than gathering up the torn money - she no doubt knows she can sticky tape matching pieces together and its still good. Her otherwise complete lack of reaction tells me she has seen him acting completely silly many times before.

@chronographer : I don't know how US law works, but here in Australia courts would consider a man's wife as committed to agree with her husband - after all the standard wedding vow is in part "to love and obey"". So if he said he was wearing a seat belt and she said he was wearing a seatbelt, her testimony is not admissable evidence - who is to know if he instructed her to say that. She would of course be breaking her obligation to tell the truth, but in this case they would have no evidence that she did. In effect him and his wife are one party vs 2 cops who could say he wasn't. In such minor cases courts will always believe even a single cop against some boofhead anyway.

Sounds like a guy who thinks everyone is as stupid as he is. I've met a few like that.

@Rich6oul I suspect you may be right - it could have been all an act. Who says his sunglasses are expensive? Only him. It''s theatrical to tear up cash, but match up the pieces and it's still good - he no doubt knows that. It's his normal mode though - shown by his wife's complete lack of surprise or interest. A pointless act - it was never ever going to achieve anything.

@chronographer : Despite your opening sentence, it seems that you and I actually believe a similar thing - a judge would discount her supporting testimony, if he could get her to testify. But I may have erred in saying her testimony is outright inadmissable. Here in Australia, a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt wouldn't be tried by a judge anyway - if boofhead simply doesn't pay the fine by the due date, these days they will just set the dept collection agency on to him - and the agency will add their costs onto his fine until he does pay. If he elects to actually have the case heard, it will just go to a magistrate - who won't waste time on silly argument - the cop's word will be taken as fact. I suppose he can then appeal to a higher court, but the costs against him will really go up. That's if he gets leave (approval) to appeal - which would be pretty unlikely.

I am surprised that he could tear money up. With the plastic money we have, you would need the strength of 10 gorillas to tear it. Does the USA still use the old fashioned paper money?
