This video isn't very accurate and contains errors. 1. He says old patents are in the public domain. He doesn't know what a patent is. The whole idea of a patent is that it is in the public domain from the date it is granted by the patent authority. That's so the patent owner has exclusive manufacturing rights for a limited time but all other makers know about it and can devise advancements on it. As soon as a patent is granted, anybody in the world can purchase a printed copy or download it for free. 2. Ryobi is not owned by TTI. It is a Japanese company making stuff in Japan. However, TTI has purchased the right to use the Ryobi name in certain (not all) countries. 3. His definition of OEM is inaccurate. An OEM is a manufacturer chosen by another manufacturer to supply parts for something the second one makes. For example, Mercedes buys fuel systems for the cars it makes from Bosch - Bosch is the OEM of fuel systems in Merc cars. Note that TTI China is unrelated to TTI the American electronic parts companay.

As far as Chinese made power tools are concerned, they are all crap. In 1970 I bought a US-made Black and Decker hand held electric drill. It took me until about 1998 to wear it out. Electric rills made in China branded Makita last about 5 years. Chinese chucks are terrible the chuck keys don't fit properly and the chucks chew out the drill bit shafts. Neve had those problems with the old Black & Decker, even though it was a cheap consumer grade tool when it was sold.

@dlewis9760 Oops! I typed it on an old Dell laptop with a faulty keyboard. I catch most things but not all.
