  1.  @ZILOGz80VIDEOS  : It mostly not luck. The US had sufficient money to do things right; and they had people like Hyman Rickover to make sure that they did. Post war Britain was the least suitable country in the world to take such a project on, as they had a deeply embedded culture of doing things on the cheap, taking risks, and not thinking ahead to figure out what the risks might be. That's why they had the Windscale fire, the Comet airliner disaster, and trashed their car industry.
