"American made with global components." This is what Trump does not understand.
Ony the sheet metal is made in USA. The drawer sliders, castor wheels, etc come from other countries, probably China. The situation with other products is the same. I don't know what Craftsman does, but US industry generally is shifting its industrial paint sources from local production to imports.
As an example, Caterpillar, which once made every part of its engines itself, buys crankshafts from Germany, and other engine parts from China.
Decades ago, American manufacturers were vertically integrated (ie made all thee parts in their own factories) or they bought parts from trusted US parts making companies. Same in other countries. These days the use of robots and a lot less labour means that making anything is only viable if you make large volumes for the world market.
So when Trump imposes a tariff on imports, he raises the cost of manufacturing within the USA.
