  1. The Malkara was an Australian designed weapon, designed to meet a specification issued by the British Ministry of Defence. It was designed in Australia as part of a missile development & test agreement between the UK and Australia, mainly about testing British military rockets that were too big and dangerous to be tested in Britain. The Australian Army refused by buy it, because it was just about useless. In Army tests it hardly ever hit a tank-sized target - the claim of an accuracy of a few inches might have been technically possible, but it was too difficult for the operator to guide it successfully. Also, it was pretty dumb because it was too big and heavy to be man portable - it needed a vehicle to bring it within range and launch it. Why not just have a self-propelled gun or tank to hit enemy tanks? God knows why the British Army bought it - political pressure? beaurocratic processes?
