  1.  @mytech6779  : Note that China Airlines is not a mainland Chinese airline. It is a Taiwan airline - they have much the same standards as the USA, and conform to international norms. It looks like the captain in this case should not have been flying, but this is not by any means an isolated example of a pilot with 1000's of hours experience turns out to be a dud when something goes wrong. Simulator training can be only so good when you know perfectly well that no matter what, you ain't gonna die.
